Although Auto Shows are mostly about new metal that will be available to the general public, automakers love to bring their latest race cars along too.
The Porsche 919 Hybrid uses an innovative hybrid drivetrain, and quite a small engine. Specifically, it is a turbocharged V4, though it revs up to 9,000 rpm and puts out about 500 hp. Much of the technology found in this race car has already been adapted for the street in the new Porche 918 supercar.

There are two different energy recuperation systems in work on the 919, one that captures kinetic energy and another that uses heat.
Audi has dominated endurance racing for some time, but that won’t last if Porsche has something to say about it.
